... Hummingbird!! We live 10 miles from the foothills, on the east side of I-25. I thought hummingbirds only lived on the west side of Fort Collins, so I am very excited.
It was all over my Hyssops (hummingbird mint), so I already ordered a hummingbird feeder on amazon. I really hope more of them decide to come on over - I’ll plant more Hyssops too!
Rest of the garden is doing pretty well.

Oooh, that is not a bird we get around here that I’ve ever seen.

I love these things. I only see them on our (canceled for 2020) yearly trip to Creede, and I saw them a few times in Golden, CO. You have no idea how excited I am to see one in my own yard!!
I took this one in Creede a few years ago - much better than my iPhone photo

Nice catch! :D
We have Hummers here all summer in Nova Scotia! We have a feeder hanging on our front verandah to give our cat some ‘TV’ :)

Creede? Where is that?
Beautiful photo by the way. Such elegant little creatures.

Ooh yeah def get a feeder! They’re super entertaining to watch and if you train them to come to the yard for sugar water you won’t be in short supply. The funny thing is, before we started feeding them at my house, I never realized that hummingbirds are mad, aggro, bullying lit tle bastards. Start your feeder and watch, you’ll see what I mean. It’s like reality TV out in the yard all the time.

My wife is nuts about hummingbirds. We are lucky enough to have a nest in a tree in our backyard. She mentioned she seen heads sticking up today, so the babies must have hatched.
Buy sugar by the 5lb bags, and make your own mixture 4:1. water:sugar. Way cheaper than what they sell.
We have a big gallon pickle jar in the fridge as she makes that much, and it keeps.
Try not to hang in direct sunlight as it encourages mold growth.
They are cool little dudes to watch.

Sweet! I’d die if we had a nest :)
I already found the 4:1 ratio recipe, and we have a few big bags of sugar. Thanks for the direct sunlight tip! We are in a new development with new landscaping, so shade is at a premium. Might be able to hide it under my apple tree..

Thanks! I love photography but I sort of stopped sharing.

You could always share to the photography Kinja subblog. They always appreciate new faces over there. Or slap them up on Oppo. I really enjoyed that hummingbird shot.

The other day, these two just decided to chill in parents garden. Pretty cool to see them sitting and close to us.

I used to, I just sort of lost the desire to do it any longer. Maybe I need to rekindle that passion. Glad you like the photos :)

Awesome :)
I really really hope that the feeder will attract some. I figure where there is one, there has to be more.

Perhaps a different subject matter might make it interesting again. I really enjoy urban photography.

I dabbled in that as well. I do enjoy it. This is an “Old guy smoking a cigar on a street in Cuba”. As you can see, I have no imagination when it comes to naming :)

Here’s mine, it’s pretty bad too....

Little nuggets are not the easiest subjects. I had my 70-200 on a tripod with a remote trigger, focused on the feeder then refocused few inches to the side. Snapped hundreds, for maybe 5 good ones after edits.

You showed this one to me before, since this is not the first time I’ve expressed admiration for your photography skills, but I don’t mind seeing it again.
I prefer a very gritty and realistic vibe to my photos when photographing something that isn’t nature. Here’s a few that I took recently with my camera phone. I don’t own a good camera. The real challenge with such crappy equipment is just finding an interesting composition.
And I could go off on a tagent about using chain link to frame focus and add perspective if you can’t get it out of a shot.

Those are nice! I have tons of great cell phone photos. I actually got rid of my travel camera in exchange for an iPhone 11 Pro 256gb so it stores years of my photos.

I heard one dive bomb me while walking up to a house the other day. Never did see it tho.

If you build it, they will come!

I don’t know, that looks like a really blurry, really tiny alligator to me... or maybe that’s just Florida digging into my subconscious .

Sure hope so!

It’s a winged nectar alligator.
